In The Rearview is a film that really did not start as a film.

I was a volunteer driver.

I bought my first van on the third day of the full-scale invasion of Russia into Ukraine in 2022.

Within a week, I was already driving on the other side, bringing small batches of people from very remote Ukrainian villages to western Ukraine and to the border of Poland.

But it was the conversations with the people in the van that made me understand how... how important it might be to document what was going on inside.

And this is what the film has become, a real refugee road movie in a way that goes, I hope, beyond just that particular war, that it tells the larger story of refugees all around the world.

And so it's a film about despair, horror, but also about hope and hope for a better life because after all, it's a film about survivors.
