Which are Jazmín and myself and Alex.

I formed this group back in 2010.

And over the years we have had some turnover, and so we've had some new ones.

And then people would graduate from Tech and then they would move on and we would find others that would come in and fill the spots.

- We play at a very high caliber, a lot of us have been doing music classically.

I know me and Berta each got like twelve, maybe fifteen years on violin.

I know Mike was a teacher.

Mike is going to school for a teacher for music.

I was in school for teaching music.

- Conrad went for vocals and guitars.

- Yep.

- He was in the Goin' Band at Tech.

(laughs) - I was in the Drum-line.

- You were in the Drum-line at Tech.

- I'm a classically trained pianist since I'm four.

Came to Tech, did a music scholarship here, decided not to do it.

Did something else.

And then, music kind of brought me back into playing Mariachi.

It's not my forte.

- We've all had... (laughs) - The suit automatically, obviously it only identifies a Mariachi, but it gives a different kind of vibe whenever we're wearing our suits to people.

They reconnect with us, they reconnect with, you know, their parents or grandparents who listened to this music and just bring back a lot of emotions to people.

- And once we put these, you know, the trajes on, we become Mariachi.

- Mariachi.

- Even without it you know, if we're in our jeans and t-shirts and we come together and we're at a backyard party and they're like, 'oh, play' and we're just like, 'okay'.

You know, we still play Mariachi music, it's not any less Mariachi because we're not in our suits.

But it's just when we put the suits on, it's like a whole different vibe.

They've been around for hundreds of years.

They're songs that people's parents know, their grandparents, their great grandparents have been singing it.

And if we sing a song wrong or we play it incorrectly, people will know.

- They've been interpreted by hundreds and hundreds of musicians throughout time.

- They're kind of like overly translated, sometimes.

- Some of them are not written.

It's just something that we have, a tradition that we have to keep pushing along and it's at the highest caliber.

- But we also have to keep it fun and then keep adding the new stuff that comes in because there's not a lot of new Mariachi music that is at the caliber of the old stuff that will stick to time.

There's been new songs here and there, but nothing has stuck like, those songs have been played for years.

So we have to respect that and do those traditional songs.

But there's also the, we have to bring in the newer generation of Mariachi.

We're actually one of the younger Mariachi's, just in general.

- I think you have a little bit of, "oh man, I'm my mom.

Like, my mom listens to this stuff when she cleans the kitchen."

But, it's so special because our moms cleaned the kitchen listening to this music, because our grandparents were singing these songs and we get to keep carrying on the tradition of these songs.
